Ray was a keen cricketer in his youth. We use to play for hours in the nets with Robin. In his teens he took up golf and got a job at Blackmoor golf club near Bordon as a young pro. Slazenger sponsored him with clubs jerseys, gloves etc. Unfortunately the money could not sustain his ambitions, but still remained a very good golfer in later life.
